This Is My Beloved Son - Listen to Him: A Catholic Company Book Review

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of Christ; in the Eastern Rite, this feast is known as the Theophany because God reveals Himself as three Persons.

It is also still the beginning of a new year and it is our call as Christians to open ourselves to God so that He might again reveal Himself to us through prayer and the sacraments.

So, I have a handy little pocket book that will help you do just that! Authors Mike Aquilina & Fr. Juan R. Velez have just put out this great little meditation book - Take Five - Meditations with John Henry Newman - based on the writings of newly canonized Anglican convert St. Cardinal John Henry Newman.

Each topical entry begins with an excerpt from this saintly man's writings, followed by these helpful prompts:

Think About It -- Points that serve as a springboard for prayerful consideration of each meditation topic. Just Imagine -- A scripture scene that brings the issue at hand to life. Remember --A simple memorization passage to help you work through the meditation topic.

This book is wonderful and truly a great resource for Catholic mamas struggling to find time for prayer - the meditations are short and sweet, and include scripture and, my favorite part, a "remember" section. The idea with the day's "remember" quote is that it is something you will repeat to yourself (or write down on a note paper and leave it in the kitchen to read to yourself over and over again, like me!) throughout the day, helping that day's idea to really sink in and stick with you in a permanent way.
