The Little Way of Advent: A Catholic Company Review

Remember The Little Way of Lent?

It was wonderful, so when I saw that The Catholic Company was offering Fr. Gary Caster's newest devotional, The Little Way of Advent, I had to scoop it up.  And its just as wonderful as its Lenten sister book, and even includes daily reflections for the whole Christmas season, all the way through Epiphany.

Like the previous one, it is
based on and incorporates quotes and reflections (daily!) from the beloved Little Flower, as well as lectionary based, so it can be used every Advent - with entries for Sundays from Cycles A, B and C.

Each day's reflection starts with a listing of the daily readings - so you would need your Bible or Magnificat as a companion reader - and then has a reflection, ending with a quote from St. Therese.

Really, this could not be a more perfect "prayer" pillar idea for a busy, desperately trying to be more spiritual, mama, or for anyone looking to add some holyness to their Advent in bitesize portions. The meditations are doable, they serve to connect you not only with the Communion of Saints, but also the daily rhythm of the Church, and the joy and cheer of St. Therese's spirit is perfect for preparing your heart and home for Christ's birth at Christmas.

There is still time to scoop one up before Advent!  (And buy new Advent candles.  Here's your reminder!)

Chime in below and lets share ideas for praying, fasting and almsgiving this season of Advent, a mini-Lent! Anything fun planned with the children?

  1. I've bought stuff to making "blessings bags" to give to homeless people we meet. The kids are going to help me assemble the bags so we have them on hand in the car.

  2. Goose and I love to sing the advent song when we light the candles. I think somebody linked up to Catholic Icing a couple years ago? Can't find that post now, but here's another one with the words: http://emilyjht.blogspot.com/2005/11/celebrating-advent-week-1.html

This doesn't mean that you have to agree with me - it means you need to disagree nicely!
