The Little Way of Lent: A Catholic Company Review

So... who remembers that Lent starts in six short days? I know, right, its so late this year but still is managing to creep up on us!

The three pillars of Lent, the penitential season of the Church that proceeds and prepares us for the joys of Easter, are prayer, fasting and almsgiving. We are still working on some almsgiving ideas for our family and my fasting will be including much. less. internet time (much to Mr. 2nd Lt.'s excitement). And, thanks to the Catholic Company, I have my prayer all lined up.

I am planning to use Fr. Gary Caster's "The Little Way of Lent: meditations in the spirit of St. Therese of Lisieux."

Amazing sounding right? Well, it gets better. Not only is this a daily devotional for Lent; not only is it based on and incorporates quotes and reflections (daily!) from my beloved Little Flower; but it is also lectionary based! Woot! This means you can reuse it from Lent to Lent if you so desire, because it includes Cycles A, B & C readings for Sundays.

Each day's reflection starts with a listing of the daily readings - so you would need your Bible or Magnificat as a companion reader - and then has a reflection, ending with a quote from St. Therese. Really, this could not be a more perfect "prayer" pillar idea for a busy, desperately trying to be more spiritual, mama. The meditations are doable, they serve to connect you not only with the Communion of Saints, but also the daily rhythm of the Church, and the joy and cheer of St. Therese's spirit is a great way to carry you through your Lenten day or, as I have planned, to top it off in the evening.
