A Feast of Angels with angels

Although we had no baby to show for it, the Feast of the Archangels was once again a beautiful one in our house.  Our fifth annual party/playdate was a huge hit with littles and mamas alike - running amuck in the backyard, glitter and angelfood and devil's food cake - who could ask for anything more? :)

Lots of devil's food brownie bits!

Mmmmm.... angelfood!

The greatest compliment I could receive was from a friend walking out the door - "please do this again and get these women together again soon."  She mentioned how wonderful and fulfilling it was to be surrounded by so many faith-filled Catholic women, just laughing and chatting and munching and having ordinary, but edifying conversation.  And it was.  It fills up your soul in the most wonderful of ways.

Then! As if that wasn't enough of a wonderful way to celebrate the day, once it was over,  I hustled over to my midwife and friend's home for a blessingway - sort of like a hippy babyshower.  Instead of showering the mama to be (and in our case, three mamas to be, three repeat mamas of our midwife's!) with presents for baby, the guests bring love and support and encouragement for the mothers in their labour and usually, bring a bead to string on a necklace or bracelet to wear as a reminder of all those thinking and praying for you while you're having your little one.

Earned my hippy badge for sure today - pregnant belly henna :)
Guess which is me? Hint: Symbol of the Resurrection and Eternal Life (ftw!)

It was a mixed crowd, so while the religious focus was not there, it was just as lovely to be supported and encouraged by other women in this process by which we are women.  All too often women snark and tear down one another when we can accomplish so much more for ourselves and our families when we focus on building up instead.  This little afternoon get-together did just that.

What a blessed day full of so many of my blessings - faith, friends, delicious food, a husband who pretty much never complains [and took the kiddos *and* entertained many of them at the party in the morning!], and so very much love.

I always love this feast day, but this year, on this lovely oxytocin high, its even rosier and more wonderful than usual.
