And on the 8th day, God said:
"Let there be 4days throughout the Army's land, that the HH6s might sit down and relax.
And that, at the sound of someone needing something, they might remember....
that someone else is taking care of it.
And He saw that it was good."

The Army life is challenging in many, many ways - long days, early mornings, many separations and lonely nights.
However, there are also blessings - the joys of homecomings, the steady paycheck and [mostly nonirritating] benefits [couldyoucoverthewholehomebirthalreadyTricare], the [sometimes!] nice housing, and community amongst other military folk.
But the 4 days.
Oh we live for the four days.

At my husband's last job, his unit was part of the hospital and they didn't "train" so they didn't take training holidays...he only had the 3 day weekends. New job, new rules...and he does get the 4 day weekend, hooray! This would have been his first, but alas he had to travel OCONUS and be in place for Monday morning. He left yesterday morning, so he had a one day weekend. The only thing tempering my own unhappiness is knowing how miserable he is: missing home, navigating in a foreign country in a rental car while not speaking the language, spending a day on planes, missing mass, not having this weekend or next to relax, etc etc etc.
ReplyDeleteugh, that stinks michelle :( i'm sorry you guys didn't get your break!
Deletei remember how 4days on deployment used to depress me b/c they were just extra downtime :(
