Our Last Year

Now that we're on the other side of our deployment, our thoughts and focus and planning to "life after Army."

AKA Family Goes West.

Mr 1st Lt. gets out next February, which means we are hoping that terminal leave will back quite nicely into Christmas. It also means that we'll be moving back to SoCal in January and taking a quick pre-move slash find-somewhere-to-live-thats-not-a-million-dollars-but-still-has-a-squidge-of-yard trip. Hopefully without the big boys? (*waves hello to my mother*) My husband has a master plan, and I'm behind him on it one hundred percent, ready to follow wherever he leads; and we're excited for the future and pursuing his dreams. We're thrilled to go back to the parish home we left behind.

One minute its exciting, dreaming about being back in the land of Big Bang Theory, minutes from Trader Joes, our parish home with Wednesday evening Confession and lots of beautiful weather.

The next minute its stressful and anxiety ridden, poking around on Craigslist apartments, researching graduate school deadlines and apprenticeship applications, hoping it all works out exactly. right.

So, we try not to think about it too hard, do what needs to be done to meet our deadlines and commit ourselves to enjoy our remaining time here.

Our last year of great neighbors and playmates for the boys.

Our last year of free military housing.

Our last year of an awesome homebirthing community.

Our last year half a day's drive from family (aka the hardest thing to leave)....

There is a lot to look forward to, but very many things to be sad to leave.

So here's to a year of soaking it all in, one precious day at a time, to saving up memories to savor once this time has passed.

  1. Oh wow! Big changes ahead for you and your family. Good luck!! My younger brother and his wife are stationed in SoCal right now and I hope to have a chance to visit them because that part of the country is SO BEAUTIFUL. :)

  4. oh, Del Mar was kind of pricey when I was a kid, but yes, very nice beaches!
On your question; Do boys play with play silks? Having only owned some for about a month, I can say that my 10 year old son hasn't played with them much. My 8 month old waves them around when he gets ahold of one. For now I can only attest these are fantastic play things for my girls. However, I came across another blog post by a mom whose boys do use them enthusiastically. http://theblessingofverity.com/2011/07/preliminary-bulletin-from-katies-country/
