We celebrated a Christian Seder this afternoon with friends, in honor of Our Lord's celebration of the Last Supper this evening and to help introduce the little ones to the connections between the Mass and our Jewish heritage.
We opened the door for Elijah and Christ and then talked about how Jesus has promised to return in glory.
We left the door open and about 10 minutes later, my Boyo turns around and looks at the door and says:
"Jesus is taking a long time in coming."
After a little laugh, we reminded him and all the children that we await His second coming, but we can see Him anytime we want at Mass and in the tabernacle. "Ohh," he said.
And so, as you enter into this most sacred time of year, may the Lord bless your celebration of the Triiduum.
Savor the bittersweet joy of Holy Thursday as we celebrate the birthday of the priesthood and the Most Holy Eucharist.
Stay and keep watch with Him (not even for one hour?) as the Agony in the Garden is again endured for us.
Follow Him on His long walk to Calvary that you might say you trembled when you were there.
And then, wait, with the rest of us, on that long and empty Saturday until the glorious Easter fire again lights the night with the Light of the Holy Spirit and we can proclaim with the whole Church, throughout the world and throughout the ages, He is Risen. He is Risen, indeed, as He promised.
