Top 'O The Feast Day to You!

Isn't it just funny that today's liturgical feast calls for lenten purple when everyone usually wears green?

Or am I the only one amused by things of that sort?

We are reading Tomie de Paola's
St. Patrick: Patron Saint of Ireland, thanks to a Valentines gift from Mr. 2nd Lt.'s mom and I have big Irish soda bread plans.

And, to brush up, here is a lovely story of St. Patrick told by the wee ones of Ireland herself:

Anyways - happy feast day to all the Patricks and Patricias out there
[waves hello to her mother] and, of course, a very happy birthday to my dear ol' non-Irish da.

(How are those moldy bowls? Perhaps you should eat some potatoes in them today.)

Say a prayer for my father today since its his birthday and you know, he's s.o. old.

St. Patrick’s Breastplate Prayer

Christ be with me,
Christ within me,
Christ behind me,
Christ before me,
Christ beside me,
Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort me and restore me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ in quiet,
Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

  1. One of my favorite holydays/holidays! I studied in Galway for a semester in college; would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go back! Ireland is so awesome. Sigh. But I'll take corned beef, Irish soda bread and American celebrations of St. Patrick's feast. (Also, have you ever read the Confesio of St. Patrick? Fascinating..we had to read it in our Medieval Ireland class. So. Cool.)
