The Newman Club - started and headed by your's truly and my very best friend Claire - had big plans to go see Relient K out in Philly but God and Claire's beat-up ol' jalopy (trust me - a very generous description) had other ideas; we broken down (less than?) one hour from Carlisle on the PA turnpike.
What struck me most from the memory though was what all those people in the car are doing now. An alum, 2 seniors, 2 wise fools (sophomores) and 2 very goofy freshman - what a car ride and what a whirlwind six years later.
Out of those seven, there are two (not one, two!) in religious life (well, 1.5; someone is not officially in, but is pretty sure that's where she's headed!), one [sucker] converted and in youth ministry (with three little ones in heaven), three mamas to a total of five babies thus far (2, 2 and 1. Give us some time, we'll take over the world - in heaven and on earth!), and another is a Catholic NFP-only physician.
Crazy, huh?
The diversity of vocations in that one little car - Franciscan, Dominican, domestic churches galore and even a future St. Gianna.
There's nothin' better... (oh, oh, oh).... Its always a surprise.
Funny how that silly song about a school dance ended up with some truly profound lyrics.
Oh and do you like my sweaterrrrr?

Definitely haven't listened to that song in years... not even sure I have it any more since my laptop died earlier this year or last year.
ReplyDeleteI love stories like this! Always fun to see how our little communities branch out and build the Kingdom in so many different ways!
