Gaudete Sunday is one of my absolute favorites!
Gaudete is Latin for "rejoice" and is distinguished by rose colored vestments and the lighting of the pink candle on the Advent wreath.
Because Advent is actually a season of penance (part of preparing for the birth of Christ), this "midway" point of the season is a cause for joy - we're almost there! Rejoice! The Lord is coming!
Rejoice! Christmas is nigh!
Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice!
Please, do rejoice today! Celebrate with some St. Lucy festivities, as they do in Sweden (this is their highpoint of the Christmas/Advent season), with cinnamon buns and hot cocoa, served by the eldest girl in your house.
Celebrate by trimming your tree, lighting your Advent candles, and singing some carols and drinking some wassail. We will!
And celebrate in your heart of hearts - Rejoice, O Israel, your Savior comes!
