Just wanted to say that apparently, BarefootMommies.com is now reviewing sex toys, in addition to other mom and family things.Fabulous.
Obviously, I won't be patronizing that site any longer and hope others will do the same.
It just saddens and frustrates me about the complete lack of understanding of the truth and beauty of human sexuality that the review of pornographic and masterbatory sex toys (on a MOM's Site mind you! You know, the women who are supposed to raising up saints!) begins with:
I am not sure why there are some people who are ashamed of sex...
Guess what? Real sexual intimacy - the giving and receiving of life-giving love between a husband and wife is unbashedly and unashamedly beautiful AND blessed by God. The selfishness and degradation that masterbation and pornography bring to the picture only serves to taint and destroy that which God has declared to be good. Advertising and encouraging mothers and wives to introduce lust into their marriages is both awful and sad.
And thats how Satan gets us. He's totally and completely unoriginal; he has no ability to create something new with which to tempt us - he just steals that which is already good and beautiful and perverts it.
And, unfortunately, it looks like Barefoot Mommies has fallen for the deception.

Amen! What a great post. This sentence hits the nail on the head: "He's totally and completely unoriginal; he has no ability to create something new with which to tempt us - he just steals that which is already good and beautiful and perverts it."
ReplyDeleteYou have got to be kidding me.
ReplyDeleteI read this and told my hubby here in florida to lust after me .... please...
He's in the military huh??? Ask any us Mil dude they do so much stuff that if you do not with them, you are going to need a REAL SKILL TO GET A REAL JOB SOOON... YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE MARRIED FOR VERY LONG. I PREDICTED KATE OF JON AND KATE PLUS 8 AND HER OBSESSIVE COMPLUSIVENESS.... YOU MAY BE NEXT.
Get a book about sexuality and how to please each other. Read the Catechism and get a priest confessor director you pray to the Holy Sp. for ok????
Seriously, get good Catholic teaching. Tis is warped.
GET REAL. BEING A reaL Catholic is not about telling or writing about what YOU THINK WE SHOULD HEAR.
gET DISCERMENT. gET A DIRECTOR AND GET YOUR HUBBY TO GO WITH YOU.
Read the Song of Songs. End of story. Really read that thang.
Anonymous, are you presuming to present Catholic doctrine on sexuality here? Have you read the Catechism? I've read the Song of Songs, and oddly enough I missed all references to mutual masturbation and sex toys. I also missed the part where it suggests that our role as wives/spouses is to replace sacred passion with lust and nastiness. Don't get me wrong, Song of Songs is a very passionate book - but it's not a license for impurity in marriage.
ReplyDeleteCatholics were the original radicals, speaking truth to power - especially with respect to the perverted understanding of the truth and beauty of human sexuality which is fundamentaly a private, exclusive gift of mutual self-giving; not an occassion of mutual masturbation. There is an important virtue called marital purity which we must all strive after and do our best to protect. Part of our duty as faithful Catholics is to call out those who betray the sacred gift of marital intimacy. But you are right, anonymous. We must all pray to the Holy Spirit to guide us through the troubled times of sexual depravity in which we live - where sex, even in marriage, is often degraded, perverted, and belittled. And we must pray for one another, that we do not go astray or stand by and let those we know and love go astray because we are too afraid to speak the truth of the Gospel to the power of the modern images being manipulated by the devils guile.
Ditto to JMC.
ReplyDeleteI think people are a bit confused about what it means to "lust" after someone. It is a good and normal thing for one's husband to passionately desire his wife - but this is different from lust. Lust is purely physical and objectifies the person it is focused on.
Referring to sad stories in the media is irrelevant here. Attacking someone's marriage and predicting their divorce is a cruel and un-Christian tactic to show your disagreement.
Sex toys are not necessary to "please" a spouse, and it is insulting to insinuate that just because a Catholic is faithful that their intimate life is less than fulfilling.
Reread JMC's comment for a truly Catholic perspective of sexuality. Then read John Paul II's Theology of the Body. Then (re)read the Catechism. And if your spiritual director does not agree with Humanae Vitae, start searching for one that does.
I'll continue to pray for the openness and unification of all Catholics and Christians, especially in this area.
Wow what a shock. I guess I should not be surprised, but my goodness. That's disgusting. Our whole world is obsessed with sexualitly of all sorts these days etc. Yuck! I am so sick of it. And thanks for the info. Glad you found it first. I haven't been to that site and I will be sure to avoid it. Creepy!
