They're Here!

The O Antiphons start today!

So called because they all begin with "O," these are the antiphons prayed during the Liturgy of the Hours between December 17 and December 24 based on the titles of Jesus in the Old Testament. They are the inspiration for the hymn "O Come, O Come Emmanuel."

In addition, the first letter of the Messianic titles: Emmanuel, Rex, Oriens, Clavis, Radix, Adonai, Sapientia—spell out Latin words ERO CRAS, meaning, "Tomorrow, I will come." Cool, huh?

O Sapientia, who came from the mouth of the Most High,
reaching from end to end and ordering all things mightily and sweetly:
come and teach us the way of prudence.
